Bringing digital efficiencies to SHE incident reporting

Willmott Dixon
The Labour Force Survey by the Office for National Statistics found that 51,000 construction workers in Great Britain sustain non-fatal injuries at work every year. The actual number is likely to be even higher as these types of injuries are substantially under-reported.

The Impact

10,000+

Incidents logged since launch.

1

Working week saved each year by automating previously manual reports.

2,000+

On-site mobile users.

Our Challenge

With the knowledge that traditional accident recording methods are time-consuming, and inconsistent from site to site, we needed to transform the way accidents are recorded.

The main challenges were in reducing the cost of producing reports, providing data consistency, indexing and making them searchable. We also needed to reduce the amount of time, effort and subsequent cost required to fulfil FOI requests.

Our Solution

We created the mi | SHE mobile app to enable personnel to quickly and easily log safety, health and environmental (SHE) incidents while on a construction site.

The app allows Willmott Dixon to take a proactive approach to capturing and reporting on SHE incidents. It features accurate reports, as well as tracking enforcement visits, dangerous occurrences and service strikes.
We built the app specifically for busy construction sites, so it was important that the user experience suited someone working in that environment. As part of the testing process, we spent time robustly testing the app on location.

The app takes full advantage of the capabilities available on a mobile device, making it quicker and much easier to log incidents and accidents. Features include:

  • Capture and upload of pictures directly from a device

  • Location aware via GPS, so the user can log the relevant site

  • Offline data capture when no internet connection is available

  • Pending records automatically sync when the user connects

  • Integration with critical internal reporting systems
    Streamlined workflows

Impact

SHE incidents were traditionally captured by hand on clipboards and stored in site cabins, making it difficult to collate data across the business and draw out any meaningful insights.

Adopting a digital approach enabled Willmott Dixon to transform the way they capture, manage and report SHE data. The result being cheaper, quicker and more accurate information available to the business, stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Saving Time

A whole working week is saved every year in collating manual reports.

Data & Reporting

Consistent, centralised, real-time reporting with accurate historical data significantly improves reporting and auditing processes.

Workforce Mobilisation

With the app in the hands of on-site personnel, Willmott Dixon benefitted from more efficient and accurate capturing of incidents.

In the words of our clients

“Tribus took the time to really get under the skin of the project and understand the challenges our colleagues face in capturing essential data on construction sites. They delivered a truly innovative solution, which has transformed the way we capture, manage and report our health and safety data. Tribus truly is an extension of our own team.”
